H.L. We spent this year's summer holiday in Iceland and so I collected some indie, rock, pop and soft metal albums for the three week round trip. VEVAKI became the main soundtrack for the darker days, when clouds, wind and rain in the mountains or at the sea made the amazing landscape even more dramatic and beautiful. When we listen today to dark folk like "Heimdalagaldr" or "Jötnablót" our thoughts go back to Iceland! Favorite track: Heimdalagaldr.

Rúnatal I'm more of a fan of the ominous sound from Edda, but Brynhildarljoth is such a beautiful track that I can't leave a review without mentioning it. Tears filled the corners of my eyes when I first listened to this rendering of Sigrdrifa's (ie Brynhilde's) incantation in celebration of being awoken from her slumber. Such youthful and loving appreciation for the weave of the natural world, despite its "cruelty", is something we've sorely been lacking for decades, if not centuries. Favorite track: Brynhildarljóð.

i_am_not_seven Vévaki‘s music became one of my absolute favorites, seeing them at Midgardsblot last August was my personal highlight of the festival. I ever (also in this moment) listen to Fórnspeki when i cross Greenland, it’s my travel soundtrack. Especially the first album, Edda, is very emotional for me and connects me with my fiancé whole lives nearly 6000miles apart from me. These two albums are outstanding and pure, beautiful magic. Dísablót is my favorite, Habba‘s voice is mesmerizing there for me ❤️

Dave Aftandilian In the darkness of the deep woods, a fire burns, crackling with life and power. As it sears its rune-brand on my heart, I rise, take up my staff, and begin the journey back to my true wild home. Branches reach out to bless me with their evergreen fragrance, and I weep with pure joy at their loving embrace.

about

Originally a solo project by singer and multi-instrumentalist Will Hunter, Vévaki is a folk band which draws from Nordic heathenism and animistic traditions.
Myth, ritual and a connection with the natural world feed Vévaki’s music, which is both contemporary in sound and wide-ranging in instrumentation.
Vévaki’s second album, ‘Fórnspeki’, finds the band expanding upon their sound while staying true to their folk roots and traditions.
